Hello, I’m Harlow
Developer/Designer
Design and Dev work, from start to end.
I work with small teams on identity, product and the websites in between — one project at a time, start to finish.
Available for one project from March
Selected work
Six projects from the last two years. Each one is written up properly — what the problem turned out to be, and what it cost to solve.
Skincare Identity & packaging 2026
Solvei
A skincare line with nine products and no interest in shouting. The identity had to survive a 12mm label and still read across a shelf.

Fintech Product design 2025
Fold
A savings app for people who find money stressful. We redesigned around the two screens that actually get opened, and deleted most of the rest.

Coffee Identity & packaging 2025
Marrow Roasters
A roastery that wanted to stop looking like a roastery. One mark, one paper stock, and a numbering system that does the branding for us.

Architecture Website 2025
Atrium Studio
An architecture practice whose old site made their buildings look small. We gave the photographs the whole screen and got out of the way.

Publishing Art direction 2024
Vellum Press
A cover system for an independent press publishing twelve books a year on a budget that allowed one photograph, total.

Apparel Brand system 2024
Northbound
Cycling apparel for people who ride to work rather than race. The identity had to work stitched, printed, reflective, and 4mm tall.

Short pieces about how the work actually goes, published when I have something worth saying rather than on a schedule.

The first ten minutes
Most of what goes wrong in a project was decided before anyone opened a design file. Usually in the first conversation, usually by nobody in particular.

Against the mood board
A wall of other people's finished work is a great way to agree on a feeling and a terrible way to agree on a decision.

Three options is a way of not deciding
Presenting a safe one, a wild one and the one you want is a well-known trick. Clients know it too, which is most of the trouble with it.

What a logo is actually for
Not to express your values. To be recognised at a glance, at a bad angle, in poor light, by someone who is not looking for it.

Designing the bad day
Product design mostly draws the state where everything worked. People remember the other one.

Notes on saying no
Running one project at a time is a scheduling decision that turns out to be a quality decision.

What I can take on
Four things, done properly. If what you need is not on this list, say so anyway — I will tell you honestly whether it is mine to do.
- Brand identity
- The mark, the type, the palette, and the rules that keep them honest once a dozen people are using them without me.
- Product design
- Interfaces designed against real content and real edge cases, handed over as components your engineers can actually build.
- Websites
- Design and front-end in one pass. Fast, accessible, and editable by whoever ends up owning it after I leave.
- Art direction
- Photography, illustration and layout held to one point of view across a launch, a campaign, or a whole catalogue.
How a project runs
The same four stages every time, with the dates agreed before we start. The numbers are the order things actually happen in.

01
Read the room
A week of interviews, competitor teardowns and reading whatever you have already written. I come back with what I think the real problem is.
-
02
Pick a direction
One direction, argued properly, with the reasoning attached. If it is wrong we find out in week two rather than week nine.
-
03
Build it out
The direction becomes a real system: type, colour, layout, components, and the pages that will carry the most weight.
-
04
Hand it over
Files, guidelines and a walkthrough recorded for whoever joins next. Two weeks of support while it goes live.
Got something you want made properly?
Tell me what it is, when it needs to exist, and what you have tried already. I answer every email within two days, including the ones I have to say no to.
Currently booking from March 2026.
